Brandon, the 'best' round for any gun depends entirely on the individual gun. What may work fine in my Mod 94 (built in 1949) may not work in your gun. This is why it is important to try several different types of ammo and make your decision based on how well a particular round performs in *your* gun. Since shot placement is the most critical factor on any given bullet's performance, start by looking for the type of ammo that is the most accurate in your gun. Besides, testing different types of ammo is a great excuse to get in more trigger time. Have fun and Good Luck!

(snip good advice.)
brandon
you may, as i did, discover that a handloaded round is (eventually) more 'right' for your particular rifle.while new factory 30/30 rounds are plentiful and well loaded, don't discount the pleasure of handloading now or if you get a chance in the future. i tagged a few deer with my own personally taylored rounds and it gave me an added degree of satisfaction.

Brandon, I use the Winchester 170 grain SilverTip in my 1954 Marlin 336. This combination has taken many deer over the years. It is accurate in my rifle, and does the job on deer out to 100 yards.
