I am considering buying a Browning A-bolt Eclipse M-1000 300 Win Mag. I would appreciate any feed back that anyone has on this gun.

Thanks,

I have been told by a PRO Hunter that Browning rifles have been the least reliable rifles his clients have used on Safari. I think that this is because they are too complex.

I would get a Remington 700, Winchester M70, Ruger M77, Weatherby or Sako.

I find that hard to believe since we're still making Copies of John Browning's designs 100 years later. But of course, I'm not guiding safaries.

I have 3 Browning rifles,7mm-08,280, and 300 wsm. I have never had a problem with any Browning Rifle. The bolt throw is great.I have put my 280 through the paces and it has never failed me. If you have a chance to get a Browning, by all means, I would say go for it. And the Eclipses look like nice rifles.Good Luck with your decision.

I know this is 6 months old, but maybe you'll read it.
I have a Browning A-Bolt Eclipse M-1000 in 300 Win Mag. I bought it new in 2000 for $899.
This one has a laminated stock, and a heavy, free floated blued barrel with the BOSS system muzzle brake.
With a handload, this rifle will consistently shoot under an inch at 100 yds.
I've used it for whitetail with a 165 gr load, but the rifle is very heavy for carrying around. It is more of a choose-a-spot rifle. I use it mostly for bench shooting at 500 yds.
I've never had any feeding problems with it, although I don't take it in the mud and dirt.

I've owned this very rifle up and until 2004 and sold it. You can not go wrong with this rifle. I used 180gr. winchester supreme balistic tips in this rifle and simply annihilates its target. I must warn you that it is a bit heavy for hiking hills while hunting, but again the muzzle adjust, and accuracy is quite dependable. I have taken an eleven point buck with it, and benchshot this rifle for fun. You will find that by tweaking the muzzle to your load will make changes in your MOA, and grouping patterns. Again I did sell this rifle only due to fanancial reasons and I do regret it, no doubt. The only con I found was that it weighed a ton. In fact the scope I had on it was twice the price of the rifle .Oh and did I mention, it definately is a show piece at the rifle range too, people just seem to be intimidated by it, and not sure why.Other than its fancey thumbhole stock and lamination it's just another rifle to me, but had some serious accuracey out and above 600yds. Other than my findings, it has pro's and cons that should be self explanitory. Good luck...
