I camped at Perdenales Falls this weekend, and there are deer out there had black tails. They looked identical to whitetail deer except for the black tails. Are these a different species of deer, or are they more of a different 'breed' of the whitetail species?

While hunting west of Langtrie, Tx (Trans Pecos) I observed several deer that were a little larger, but definitely darker in color and with no evident white flag. Unfortunately they were does so there was no diference of antler shape to see.I wondered at the time if they might be Muley/WT breeds. Bill Van Houten (USA Ret)
