I want to do small game hunting, turkey hunting and big game hunting when I can get a tag with my new future bow. Who makes the best? Price range? I have looked at the following: 1. Outfitter Series PL-1 (Parallel limb technology) 2. PSE Fire Flight 3. Alpine Impact X-Treme 4. Etc...

What's your opinions?

What I prefer in a bow might not be what you like or works for you. It's kind of like saying, pick me a girlfriend, some like blondes, some like redheads, etc.

There are many good bows out there, Matthews, Hoyt, Parker, PSE, Browning, Buckmaster/Jennings all make good bows. But again, what do YOU want? Speed, quietness, lightweight, short length, shoot with a release/sights, fingers, from the ground, from a tree stand? All of these variables need to be considered before you can realistically consider a bow.

The best thing that I can tell you to do is get yourself to a qualified archery pro shop, one that sells multiple bow lines and try several that are in your price range as well as your draw weight and length. Shoot them all and find out what you're most comfortable with, in your price range.

Everyone has thier own favorite. Almost everything on the market these days is very good. I have a golden eagle that works great. I've been drooling on some of the high end Mathews and Hoyts but just can't spend the money right now. I have friends with Brownings, Buckmasters, and Bears. All are great. I think the Buckmasters and Bears can be had out of the Cabela's catalog at a good price.

The most important thing is preparation. Get a good bow mechanic to set this thing up right from the start. Do your research so you know what makes it work and how to tune it. Have a pro teach you to shoot. Practice, practice, practice. 36 shots a day minimum, 3 days a week minimum, for about a month or 2 should make you good enough to hit consistently. You should have a gigantic tricept on your brace are and your latisimus dorsi on your draw side should be a hunch by then.

Good Luck,

James E. Thayer

I would look at 2 bows if I were in the market for one.

1. Matthews - Black Max 2 or Conquest 3 2. Jennings Buckmaster 2000

Mathews, the BlackMax or LX check out their line of bows. Price range from 700.00 down. You could also check on Ebay under archery.
