Hello , I was hoping someone could tell me what barrel lengths/guages on a shotgun are ok for clay shooting . I am new to shooting and recently was given a shotgun and am hoping it is useable to shoot trap/skeet with. Thank you in advance, DjB in Florida

I shoot sporting clays with my camoflage Benelli Super Black Eagle 26' barrel. I also use it to hunt doves, ducks, geese, turkey, pheasants, and quail. I would guess there are all types and lengths of guns suitable for shooting clays. My only suggestion would be that a semi-auto or double barrel would be better for those quick second shots. Pump shotguns can be a handicap for some shooters trying to get a second shell off at a missed single or the second clay on a double.

Given that you already have a shotgun make the best of it. With my time spent this summer working on 'My Old House' I've had little time to pick up a shotgun. Since dove starts Monday here in MD I shot 100 rounds at clays last weekend. First 50 carried my Beretta 682S. I've shot literally 100,000 rounds + through this gun when I shot registered skeet and I broke a paltry 27 on the first round. Second round I carried a 1967 Winchester 101 20 gauge bored IC and mod that I recently inherited from my Grandfather and had never shot and I broke... 27. It's really a matter of fit and comfort with the gun for the most part. First time I ever went 100 straight at skeet was in the puring rain with my Remington 870 SPS but it was the one shotgun I had and I knew it like the back of my hand.
