Yes, it's another 'where to hunt in Idaho' post from me.

I'm planning a Spring Bear hunt, hopefully I can get my Dad up here from Texas to join me. I'm not applying for one of the few controlled hunts. I live in Pocatello (as some of you now know), but am not restricted to the SE corner of the state. I would like to hit some of the units that are not more than 5 or 6 hours away by truck, though.

I don't plan to use dogs or baiting, and will be unguided. I'm familiar with the woods, and hunting, camping, etc., as is my Dad. We don't have horses or ATVs (he can't ride either after a bad accident, but walks and runs just fine !).

Any tips of areas with good bear populations. I'm looking hard at units 48 and 49, 50, 51, 66, 67, etc. One idea is that there are probably a lot of bears in the units around Yellowstone (62, 62A, 61, etc).

Thanks for any help,

Ben Reinhardt Pocatello, ID

Ben Check the results of previous years for bear tags filled. It has always been good up to the west of McCall. Always a good idea to get to know some of the land owners and chat with them. Offer to share your meat. All too often hunters just plow right thru private property with little regard for gates, fences, livestock that are close to dropping calves, etc. All it takes is some common courtesy and you have some prime property to hunt on. I know how I have reacted when some bozo hunted my land without ever asking if it was OK and then got offended when I ran them off with threats of trespassing and if they got pushy, with threats of physical harm.... I always had time to chat with friendly guys who respected my property rights and the welfare of my livestock. Ol Shy & Bashful

Thanks, I've been to the Idaho Fish and Game web site, but never could find listings for bear tags filled. Moose and Elk, yes, bear no. I'm going to call them and find out if I can get the info.

Thanks,

Ben Reinhardt
