Well, if you have been out duck hunting in Arizona you know the season has not been the best. We had not got much rain in the high country, and went 101 days without a trace of rain here in Phoenix, since late September if I remember correctly. Over the last few weeks though, the situation has changed. During the week after Christmas we went out one colder, cloudy morning and I took 4 green wing teal and my partner took 1 mallard and a blue wing teal. New Years eve day morning was great. I took another 3 green wing teal and my partner took 4 green wing teal. We grilled 8 teal to celebrate the new year, and laugh at the biggest marketing scam ever. (Yeah right, they where going to run out of champagne. Ooooh, hurry and buy some quick.) Last Sunday was the best opportunity and I wish I had the chance to get out. It was cloudy with light rain all day, and below 60 for the high temp. My guess is that with that cold front even more ducks will be moving down from the iced over high country lakes . I scouted Pleasant and few other spots and numbers look good, but I would also expect to see alot of other duck hungry hunters around so PLEASE THINK SAFETY FIRST. Anyway, I would like to hear anyone else's take on this season and how they have done, and in what areas...and no, I do not mean telling the exact location of your honey hole. Unless you want to email me with it. I promise I will only use it once a year, keep it clean, leave a stash of soup, coffee and whiskey for you, cover my trail so nobody will ever know how to get there, and never tell anyone unless they use the ultra-double-secret code.

Happy hunting Michael Rosenberger

Shoot a bunch of widgeons, gadwalls and a couple of mallards over New Year's weekend up at Lee's Ferry.

Micheal, I also live in Arizona, Tucson to be exact. Although I can not help you with any information, I am very interested in doing some duck hunting in the state. I have to let you know that I have lived in Tucson all 35 years of my life, and I have never duck hunted before. I do a lot of quail hunting and got my first Mule deer this year, but have no idea where to start with the duck hunting. If you could give me any information as to where I could go and what techniques work best, and what might be some wise investments, decoys, calls, blinds etc.. What type or species of duck do you hunt for and how many species are there in Arizona. I would like to start taking both of my sons with me also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Good luck with the rest of your season thanks Fred.
