Coon hunting

Coon hunting is one of the most popular sports in America today, it is quickly becoming more and more popular seemingly everyday. Very simply, hunting for Coons is great for both beginners and avid hunters, as raccoon can be a great way to practice your hunting skills for the larger game.

Coon hunting is a great sport for the avid outdoors-man, because you can do it outdoors, at night, and in some awesome scenery. If you enjoy being outdoors, this is a perfect four for you.

This kind of hunting can not only offer you the opportunity to profit when you catch a good coon, but can also give you a chance to unwind after a long work week.

As Cliff writes in his post One Month Coon Hunting Odyssey:

Coon hunting can be addictive. It can also be tiring. There’s nothing like the thrill of hearing the bawl of the hounds echo across the darkened countryside as they give chase to ol’ Mr. Ringtail. But staying out the better part of the night when you have to work the next day can definitely take its toll on a person.

Thank you for this interesting post–I’d love to see more pics of those good hounds in action! I grew up running hounds in the Alleghenies on everything from cottontail rabbits & squirrels to fox & ‘coon… I miss those days, and sometimes still dream about the distinctive yelp of Spotty (a Walker foxhound with little feet & long legs), bellow of Moe-dog (a Black&Tan/Redbone low-slung cross with big feet), and other favorites.

If any of you are hunting in the TN area, we have wonderful Coon hunting lands and being close to the rivers, they get FAT. Coon hunting isn’t that popular in TN and I think it is because hunters are looking for more meat than sport. If you are in the are of the Cherokee national forest and want a great time, give me a shout. We have Flu Fishing trips on the Taccoa River and wonderful Ocoee Rafting.
