Do you have any experience with this cartridge on deer? CZ makes a beautiful little rifle in this chambering. I have only shot sks in this cal. and it seems strong enough and the ballistics look ok but mathematical equations don't always tell the whole story.

There are many rifles of that caliber being used by people up here in northern Wisconsin. As long as you realize the limitations on this round are similar to a .30-30, then you'll be fine. Just make certain that the ammo you're using is for hunting and not military surplus, full metal jacket

On paper the 7.62x39 is almost the equal of the classic 30/30. I suspect the difference will be in bullet performance. I recall reading somewhere that the nothing special softnose spitzers loaded into the Russian carbine round performed inconsistently in ballistic gelatin tests, which is no surprise considering its pedigree. On the other hand factory 30/30 ammo has been continually improved and perfected for use on game over these last 98 years. That CZ bolt action carbine sure does look handy though. Maybe you can play and practice with the cheap stuff then stoke it with Cor-Bon Nosler Ballistic Tips come deer season. Good hunting!

A friend of mine uses a little carbine with this cartridge. He loves it. He hunts everything from deer and hogs to coyotes. He has not had a bullet failure yet. according to him. He also like to plink with it and there are a bunch of shells that you can plink with using this round.

I went looking for the 125 NBT's I recalled Cor-Bon making and could find
30/30 equivalent sort of load. Good hunting! Michael

I think they've been discontinued, but you may still be able to find some and try the Barnes 110 grain X bullet in .308. I had a Mini-30 that would do about 2,500FPS with these and it even shot them half well, which is about impossible with a Mini. In wet phone books they would open up perfectly to about .60 caliber.

I have used 7.62x39 SKS rifle, it works but its useless for 300+ yard shots.... good luck, I moved to a 30.06 as soon as possible...
