Just in case anyone was wondering, a 300 savage works just fine on elk. I shot a nice cow on Thursday eve with a Savage 99 open sites in 300 savage , one shot to the upper lungs at about 70 yards and that was it!

Better than .243. I know the .243 is a fine cartridge, but I still wouldn't want it to be my only gun when aiming at over a ton of meat on the hoof! I have a freind that does and more power to him.

On that note I have another freind who uses the 300 Savage for elk and he has never told me a horror story of the one that got away or turned to challenge him after being hit. Enjoy that elk.
