I hunt whitetails in the hill country in texas and im looking at 3 new calibers i have never shot. I usuallyl hunt with a 30.06. I have noticed this is wayyyyyyyy to much gun. SO any ideas here would be greatly appreciated.

I became impressed with the .30'06's apparent surplus of power the first time I socked a browsing (as in unsuspecting) whitetail on the near shoulder with a 150 grain bullet at about 90 yards. Another solution is to pick a heavier, stiffer bullet for your '06. I've found the 180 grain Nosler Partition kills just as reliably though not quite as suddenly as the lighter, faster, more frangible slugs, but it does so with less meat damage. If you need another rifle (and who among us doesn't?) be sure to have a look at the .260 Remington chambering as well. Good

I'm surprised that you consider a 30-06 too much gun. What bullets have you been using? That aside I'm not one to disagree with buying another gun. In that case I'd go with the 7mm08.

Hello,

if I had to choose between those 3, I'd go with th 7mm-08 as it's supposed to be the most versatile of those three rounds due to the opportunity to use heavier bullets if necessary. Have a look here for more information: http://members.tripod.com/sed88/rem7/

happy shooting,
