How many pellets puncture wounds did you count when you harvested/butchered your deer?

What caliber was the buckshot? What type of shell? (2.75', 3' Magnum or Non-magnum? Brand?

How far away was the deer? What was the presentation of the deer? (quarter, broadside, etc...)

Where were the hits/wounds on the deer?

Did the pellets completely penetrated? If not, how deep was the penetration?

Did the wounds result in significant blood loss?

Did the deer stay down? Wander

Double 00 buck from a 3' shell is deadly on deer out to 50 yds. Here in VA we use it all the time and I assure you, it only takes a few of the .22 cal + pellets to do the job quickly and efficiently

You ask waaaay too many questions, Henry. But to answer: I've hunted deer behind dogs for years, using buckshot. It is a short-range (<40yds) proposition, for shooting at unwounded deer. I prefer bigger pellets and more, so 00 in 3'... some like 000 (good penetration) some like #1 (more, good for in close). Some pass through, some done. Profile shots are best, by far. Keep shooting. Sometimes blood, often not. Some fall right down, some don't. I only use it behind dogs. Generally, a rifle or a shotgun/slug is better choice... if you have the option, don't use buckshot. It is a specialty round for deer, in the really thick stuff for moving deer.

used within limitations, deadly. Try to stretch, you'll loose deer.
